Thionville to Metz

Monday 14th

Today is the last stretch to Metz where we leave Erika and Knud tomorrow to start our few weeks of cycling. Three locks in 35 kms today.

Knud set off by bike early this morning to ride back into Thionville to pick up a new hot water service which he will bring back on the bike - as you do!

When he arrived back, we unhitched the ropes; the morning was spent passing through locks with their cute éclusier houses until we reached Metz about 1:30 p.m.

The scenery into Metz is lovely and we pull up at a picture-postcard spot on the quay looking right at the Cathedral St-Etienne, boats, swans and bridges: a real room with a view.

Very hot - 28 def C!

The cathedral has some wonderful stain-glass windows by Chagall (1958 to 1968).
