Sunday 13th
We left Remich early and refuelled just a few kms along at Port Schwebsange; then onto Schengen.

Schengen is where the famous Schengen Agreement was signed in 1985 to provide for borderless movement of people, goods, services and currency through the member countries - what is now the EU.
We went to the special exhibition here as well as having a look around the small town which had a nice Schloss and church.
We pass through the lock into France and pull up a few hours later just beyond Thionville at a quiet spot near the now-abandoned Uckange Ironworks built between 1890 and 1913 and shut in 1991. The blast furnace U4 is now listed as a national historical monument - and it has attached gardens which are just delightful. We had a wonderful time clicking away with the camera on our walk around the old industrial sight, spectacular with all its gritty metal angles and pipes and wires.
The boys went for a swim in the river - can you believe it, the day is actually very warm; quite a change from the slightly wet and grey days we've had since leaving home.

We had a BBQ up on deck for dinner tonight. Absolutely beautiful evening.

Absolutely beautiful part of the world Pam. Hope the weather has come good for you.
ReplyDeleteTaking David would be wonderful. You would be seeing everything afresh!
